PSA: My bulky canvas tent survived a hailstorm when my friend's fancy nylon one ripped.
Last weekend, we got caught in a sudden hailstorm. My heavy canvas tent held up fine, but my buddy's lightweight nylon tent got shredded. Am I wrong for thinking durability beats weight savings every time?

That reminds me of the time my bargain-bin tent leaked so bad during an Ozarks downpour, the inside basically became a wading pool. Woke up with my sleeping bag soaked and had to sleep in the car. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for.

Your 'bargain-bin tent' story hits home because I've had similar disasters. What did you do with all your wet gear after that car sleep? I MEAN, waking up in a puddle sounds like a nightmare that would make anyone swear off cheap tents for life. Was it just the tent, or did other stuff get ruined too? That kind of rain in the Ozarks can be NO JOKE, and it makes me wonder how you prep for trips now. Honestly, sometimes the hard lessons are what stick with you the most.
