Just realized my 'waterproof' tent bag is a lie after a storm in the Smokies

Last year I was on a 4 day hike in the Smokies and a huge storm hit on day 2. I thought my tent was safe in its bag, but everything got soaked inside. Turned out the bag itself had a tiny tear and the water got in. Now I use a $15 dry bag from a local store and it's way better. Anyone else had gear fail in a way that made you change how you pack?

Dry bags are the way to go for sure. Bought a cheap one at a gas station in the Smokies after my first trip there and it saved my gear through a real nasty storm. Never trusting a bag that says waterproof on it again.

Depends on the bag though, had a $40 one from REI that's been through way worse.
