I finally got why people spend so much on a good sleeping pad

For years I used a cheap foam pad I got for maybe $25. Last trip to the Gila Wilderness, I borrowed my buddy's insulated inflatable pad. The first night, I slept straight through until sunrise for the first time ever. The ground was frozen, but I was warm. It wasn't just comfort, it was about not being exhausted. What's a good budget option that actually works for cold weather?

Man, that's why I still keep my old foam pad as a backup.

Funny, I had the opposite happen... borrowed a fancy pad and got a cold spot from a slow leak. Woke up freezing. My old foam pad never does that. It's just reliable, even if it's not as soft. For cold weather, that trust matters more to me than a little extra cushion.
