Friend told me my tent stakes were junk after a windy night

Last trip up to Lake Arrowhead, my buddy's tent stayed put while mine nearly blew into the creek. He pointed out I was using those cheap plastic stakes that came with the tent. Swapped to some 8-inch aluminum ones after that and they hold way better in the dirt. Anyone else had a simple gear swap like that make a big difference?

Borrowed a buddy's tent once and his cheap stakes bent like wet noodles the first time I tried hammering them into rocky ground. Later that same trip, a different friend showed up with these thick orange snow stakes he'd grabbed from a surplus store. His tent didn't budge even when the wind picked up that night. I went out and bought a set of those the next week. Little stuff like that really does change everything.

Man, same thing happened to me. Swapped out my flimsy tent stakes for some cheap aluminum ones and now my tent actually stays put in a storm, it's wild how much difference just that one piece of gear makes.
