Finally stopped using my camp stove windscreen after a close call in Wyoming
For like 4 years I just propped up my Jetboil with whatever random rocks I could find to block the wind. Last trip out near Lander a gust caught the whole setup and sent my boiling water everywhere, nearly hit my buddy. Switched to a proper folding windscreen from Sea to Summit, $16 on sale, and it snaps right on without wobbling. Has anyone else had a stove tip over like that or am I just unlucky with wind?

Isn't it funny how we all learn this lesson the HARD way with gear? I've noticed the same pattern across camping, cooking at home, even working on my truck - you jury-rig something for YEARS thinking it works fine, then one stupid moment shows you exactly why the proper tool exists. That close call in Wyoming is a PERFECT example of the universe trying to tell you something before you get seriously hurt. Sometimes the cheap hack just ain't worth the gamble, especially when it involves boiling water near your face.

Yeah Lander gets crazy gusts. I used to think windscreens were overkill but after having my stove flame blow sideways and melt part of my tent fly I changed my mind real fast.
