Bought a $60 camping hammock and it nearly dumped me in a creek

Got a cheap Amazon special and the stitching gave out on the second night. Has anyone else had better luck with a specific brand under $100?

I had the same thing happen with a $40 hammock from a brand called "Outdoor Vibes." The stitching gave out right at the gathered end, scared the heck out of me. I ended up getting a Grand Trunk double hammock for about $70 and its been solid for three years now. The fabric is thicker and the seams look way better. I'd skip anything with those thin little gathered ends and look for ones with reinforced stitching around the loops.

I actually had the opposite experience with a cheap hammock. My $30 Amazon special has been through two summers of heavy use, including me and my dog flopping into it at the same time, and the stitching is still holding up fine. Sometimes those thin gathered ends work better because they let the fabric bunch up naturally instead of forcing it into stiff reinforced loops that can create weak points. Plus if you're only hanging it a foot off the ground like most people do, a fall from that height is more of a surprise than a real danger. Have you ever tried one of those parachute nylon hammocks that are basically just a rectangle of fabric with no fancy seams?
