That fiber splice tray trick I stole from a veteran in Tampa
Been doing residential drops for 2 years and always fought with loose pigtails in the tray until a guy on a job in Tampa showed me to use the lid as a tension gauge before closing it. He said if the lid pops up more than 1/4 inch, you got too much slack and itll kink later after the heat cycle. Has anyone else found a simple trick like that that saves them time on every install?

Honestly I think that 1/4 inch rule is just some old school superstition that people pass around to sound smart. Ive closed trays with way more slack than that and never had a kink issue, the heat cycle thing is way overblown for most residential gigs. The lid pop depends on how you route the pigtails in the first place, so blaming the slack measurement feels like a cop out. Plus every tray is built different, so a universal quarter inch gauge is pointless. Id rather just close it, check for sharp bends, and move on than waste time measuring lid movement on every single splice.
