Overheard a guy at the supply house say 'a clean truck is a slow truck' and honestly, I get it now.
He was talking about how if your van is spotless, you're not actually out there working. My rig is a mess of coax ends, zip ties, and dust bunnies from crawl spaces. But it means I'm getting jobs done. Still, my boss in Tampa is pushing for 'professional image' checks. How do you balance looking presentable with actually having the tools you need right at hand?

So what's the boss's definition of 'presentable' anyway?" is the real question. Around here in Tampa I see guys who keep their cabs clean but their cargo area is a disaster and nobody cares because the work gets done. Honestly I think if your cab is clear of trash and your equipment is stored safely rather than rolling around, that's presentable enough. The whole "clean truck slow truck" thing is true but there's a middle ground between a showroom van and a biohazard. If my boss wants inspections, I'll toss a tarp over the organized chaos in the back and call it a day.
