I finally turned down a promotion to team lead

Everyone says moving up to management is the smart move in this job. But last month, I was offered a team lead position and I said no. I saw how much paperwork and meetings took my last boss away from actual install work. Why give up the hands on part that I love just for a title? Staying on the truck lets me solve real problems every day.

A buddy of mine took that promotion path last year. He spent his days in back to back calls and filling out reports, never getting his hands on the equipment anymore. The guy was miserable within six months and actually asked to step back down, but the company wouldn't let him. You might have saved yourself a real headache.

Yeah I used to think moving up was always the right move. Stories like that make me see it different now.

That's a fair point, but I see it the way jade_lane does now.
