Watched a guy at the lumber yard in Tulsa last month pick through 30 boards for a face frame
Stood behind him at the yard counter in Tulsa about a month ago while he culled through a whole bunk of maple for a face frame job. He set aside 30 boards and kept maybe 9 of them, and the guy at the counter just shrugged like it was normal. I get wanting clean stock for something you see every day, but I've been building boxes out of what he left behind for years and never had a callback over a knot nobody looks at. Curious where the rest of you draw the line on board selection before it turns into a whole afternoon.
Did the 30 he set aside all come from the same bunk? Hard to blame the counter guy when sorting is just part of the job, though culling 21 of 30 does sound like a lot.
