Took me 3 weekends to figure out why my cabinet doors wouldn't stay aligned, and it was the last thing I checked
I built a set of shaker doors for a kitchen in Portland back in March, and three of them would not stay flush no matter how many times I adjusted the hinges. I figured it was the hinge plates, so I swapped them out twice, then I thought the frames were racked, so I checked diagonals for about four hours. Then I blamed the plywood, drove back to the yard, and bought a fresh sheet. Weekend three I finally laid a straightedge across the face frames and realized the cabinet box itself was twisted by maybe 3/16 of an inch because I had clamped it to an uneven garage floor when I glued it up. I shimmed the box, re-checked the doors, and they lined up in about ten minutes. Two full weekends gone because I never checked the floor. Now I keep a 4 foot level under the bench and shim every box before glue up. Any of you ever chase a door alignment issue all the way back to the floor?
