Shoutout to that old Stanley 78 rabbet plane I found at a flea market
I finally got around to cleaning it up and gave it a go on a piece of scrap maple, expecting a rough finish. After a few passes with a fresh blade, it cut cleaner than my router setup for a small job! Learned that sometimes the simple, sharp hand tool is perfect for a quick, precise edge. Anyone have a favorite old tool that still surprises you?

Totally get that. I mean, it feels like we overcomplicate so many things now when the old, simple answer was right there.

What's an example you've seen lately where the simple fix got ignored? I see it a lot with software updates that add more menus instead of just fixing the bug. Makes you wonder who it's actually for.
