Old timer told me to stop sanding between coats of lacquer

Guy named Hank with 40 years in the shop said I was wasting time. Told me to lay it on wet and leave it alone. Tried it on a kitchen job in Austin last month. He was right. No scratches, no nibs, saved like 2 hours per cabinet. Anyone else ditch the sanding step?

Tried it myself on a set of kitchen cabinets last fall and never looked back. The key is getting the lacquer on thick enough so it flows out smooth, but not so heavy it runs. That wet layer self-levels better than any sanding ever could. Plus you skip the dust from sanding that always settles back into the next coat. Only time I still sand is if I screw up and get a run or a bug lands in it. Otherwise Hank's method saves a ton of time and gives a cleaner finish.
