Half-lap joints took 3 hours until I stopped using the router
I kept fighting tear-out on maple, swapping bits and adjusting speeds for hours. Then I tried a table saw and chisel setup, finished the same joint in 20 minutes. Anyone else drop a power tool for hand work after losing a whole afternoon?

That's the thing about tear-out on maple, it laughs at your router bits until you give up. Once you feel that satisfying chisel slice through the grain, it's hard to go back to screaming power tools. The router is great for hogging out waste, but for anything that needs to look decent, hand tools just let you feel what the wood is doing. Now I keep a shoulder plane and a marking gauge next to my saw, and the router only comes out for things that don't matter. Honestly, losing an afternoon might be the best way to learn that lesson.
