Watched my favorite leather work boots disintegrate after 10 months of light use

I was sitting on my porch in Portland last Sunday pulling a loose thread and the entire sole just peeled off like a bad sticker, has anyone else dealt with that kind of sudden failure from a brand that used to be solid?

My old Red Wings took 3 years of heavy use before the soles even started looking thin, so that peel off after 10 months sounds like a bad batch to me. Maybe you just got a defective pair with a glue issue or the materials changed since they cut corners. Manufacturing can slip up on quality control sometimes, especially when brands get popular.

@reese_taylor69 I've got Red Wings that fell apart in 8 months so your mileage may vary with any brand. Those old boots you're talking about might've been made with different materials entirely. The leather on newer stuff feels thinner and the soles are lighter which makes them more comfortable but also less tough. Manufacturing might be fine but the design priorities changed and durability got traded for weight savings.
