That one week my blender died and so did my meal prep plans

Last Monday I went to make my morning smoothie and the motor just gave out with a puff of smoke. It was an old Osterizer I got from my grandma's estate sale about 8 years ago, so I can't complain too much. But that same week, my coffee grinder started acting up and my favorite non-stick pan got a scratch that peeled. By Friday I was eating cereal out of a plastic bowl because everything else in my kitchen was falling apart. It really made me think about which items are worth spending extra on for longevity versus just replacing cheap stuff every few years. I ended up buying a refurbished Vitamix from a local shop downtown for $200, which felt steep but hopefully it lasts. Has anyone else had a stretch where multiple things failed at once and you had to rethink your whole approach?

Did that blender have a funeral smell too? I used to be the guy who bought the cheapest thing at Target and figured I'd replace it when it broke. But last year my microwave, toaster, and rice cooker all crapped out within two weeks of each other. Having to eat cold oatmeal out of a pot with a plastic spoon finally made me get it. I got a rebuilt KitchenAid mixer and it feels like a real appliance, not a toy that's gonna die on me.

Cold oatmeal with a plastic spoon should be a crime.
