Spent $400 on a "buy it for life" cast iron skillet and it cracked on day 3
Waited months to save up for that fancy hand-poured skillet from a small foundry in Ohio. Dropped a cold chicken thigh in hot oil and snap, right across the middle. Has anyone else had a cast iron just give up on them like that or did I just get the one bad apple?

Ohio foundry stuff is usually solid lol but I've noticed quality slipping everywhere since 2020.

People keep blaming the pandemic but nobody talks about how the supply chain panic caused companies to switch suppliers overnight to keep stuff moving. Foundries that used to buy American steel started taking cheaper imports just to fill orders and now that quality is baked into everything. Once you change the raw materials it takes years to get back to the old standards if they even bother trying. Plus workers who knew the old machines retired during that time and their replacements just don't have that same level of experience.
