Picked the $30 plastic cutting board over the $90 wood one at a shop in Boise, and I regret it
Stood in the store for 20 minutes comparing a cheap plastic board and a thick maple one, and went plastic because I figured I could just replace it later. Two years of daily cooking later the plastic one is scratched up, stained from beets, and warped on the bottom, while my neighbor's wood board just needs a wipe of oil now and then. Does anyone actually wear out a good wooden board, or do they pretty much last forever if you take care of them?
A guy on a cooking forum tested his maple board for like 15 years and the thing barely showed any wear. Wood fibers close back up when you oil them, so cuts don't stay open like they do in plastic. Treat it right and it'll outlive both of us.
