My uncle swore by a $15 leather belt, 8 years later it outlived my $80 one

So back in 2017 my uncle Bill visits and sees me wearing some fancy brand belt I paid 80 bucks for at a mall in Phoenix. He laughs and hands me an old beat up leather belt he's had since the 90s, says 'this thing survived two divorces and a roofing job, your fancy one won't make Christmas.' I rolled my eyes but wore it. That belt is still holding my pants up today. The 80 dollar one cracked in like 9 months. Fast forward to last week, I finally asked him where he got it. He said some flea market stall in El Paso, no brand, no tag, just thick leather and a brass buckle. I've been chasing that high ever since. Has anyone else gotten a random hand-me-down that beat the modern stuff? What was it and how old is it now?

Wow, that's a pretty romantic story for a belt. I mean, I'm glad it works for you, but a few years is hardly a scientific test of quality. Honestly, most people just replace things when they get tired of them, not when they actually wear out.
