My Swiss Army knife from 1998 finally broke yesterday

I was opening a bag of dog food at the shop and the main blade snapped clean off right at the pivot point. I've used that knife almost every single day for 26 years without any issues. Has anyone else had a long term tool just give up on them out of nowhere like that?

26 years of daily use and the blade just snaps" - man, that's rough. I read somewhere that Swiss Army knives actually have a lifespan built into the pivot pins, like they're meant to wear out after a certain amount of openings and closings. Maybe yours just hit its limit after all that dog food duty.

@nina_butler sounds like that knife put in some serious dog food duty. 26 years is a good run though, my last one barely lasted through three camping trips before the corkscrew bent. Guess the old timer finally said "I'm done" right when you needed it most. Hope you at least got to give it a proper burial in the backyard.
