My $60 canvas tote lasted a decade but a $15 zipper repair cost me two evenings

I finally got around to fixing the busted zipper on my old canvas tote from 2014, but the replacement slider I ordered didn't fit and the local tailor in Austin quoted me $30, so I spent 4 hours total wrestling with snaps and thread before just sewing it shut and using it as a grocery bag, anyone else given up on reviving a favorite item after a silly hardware fail?

Ugh, that sucks. I feel you. I had a similar thing happen with my favorite jacket, the zipper pull just snapped right off. Spent a whole weekend trying to fix it with pliers and a paperclip before I finally gave up and just wore it open. Honestly, sometimes it's just not worth the fight. The bag's still good for hauling stuff, so at least it got a second life as a grocery tote. Better than throwing it out, right?
