I used to swear by cheap harbor freight tarps...
Bought a 12x16 for $8 last spring and it turned into confetti after one winter. Lost about $40 on three of those before I finally bought a single $30 tarp that's still going.

Oh man, you are preaching to the choir here. I did the exact same thing with those $8 tarps. Bought a bunch for covering lumber and equipment on a job site and they literally started disintegrating by November. Little plastic shreds everywhere. Its like theyre made out of recycled grocery bags or something. I finally broke down and got a heavy duty one from a proper hardware store and its been through two winters now without a single tear. Night and day difference. You definitely get what you pay for with tarps, lesson learned the hard way.
