Hot take: my brother in law told me to skip the $300 knife block and just get one good $40 chef knife, and now my whole kitchen feels different

The "$40 chef knife" thing hits different once you notice it shows up everywhere. Like how one good pair of boots beats five cheap ones that fall apart, or one solid pan instead of a whole cabinet full of junk you never touch. We just get sold on having more stuff when the real upgrade is usually just having less but better.
