Chose a vintage Woolrich coat over a new Patagonia last winter

I was torn between a $60 thrifted Woolrich parka and a $300 Patagonia down jacket. The Woolrich has held up through 3 snowstorms and a dog attack without a single tear. Anyone else betting on old gear over new stuff?

Man, that's the kind of real-world test that tells you everything. So did the Woolrich just feel heavier and more solid from the start, or did it surprise you after a few wears? I swear some of that old stuff was built to last through anything, not just look good on a rack.
