Appreciation post: my grandpa's old cast iron skillet

I thought cast iron was overhyped. Heavy, hard to clean, takes forever to heat up. But I inherited one from my grandpa 5 years ago and it's all I use now. The thing is from the 1960s and it still cooks pancakes perfectly. Has anyone else had a cooking tool that just outlasts everything else?

Used to think cast iron was just old man hype. My grandma's skillet sat in a cabinet for years before I actually tried it. Now it's the only thing I grab for frying eggs.

My 1980s Farberware saucepan has a dent from when I dropped it moving apartments 15 years ago, still heats soup evenly and hasn't warped a bit. Funny how the stuff our grandparents bought just works forever while my new pans get scratched up in six months.
