Bought a whole hog and learned the hard way about freezer space...

I paid $450 for a nice Berkshire hog from a local farm without measuring my chest freezer first... ended up having to give 40 pounds of it to my neighbor because it just wouldn't fit. Has anyone else ever bought too much meat at once and had to scramble for storage?

My husband and I did something similar a few years back with a half cow. The farmer warned us about freezer space but I thought we had it covered. We ended up buying a second chest freezer off Facebook Marketplace for 50 bucks the same day the meat was delivered. It sat in our garage for two years and paid for itself in what we saved buying in bulk. Now I always measure twice and buy once!

Learned that lesson the hard way with a Side of beef and my parents basement freezer that died.
