Tried to replace my dryer heating element and found a sock in the blower wheel

Spent three hours taking apart my Whirlpool dryer because it stopped heating, replaced the thermal fuse and heating element, and put it all back together with zero change. Turned out a single sock had jammed the blower wheel the whole time. Has anyone else chased a phantom fix for way too many hours?

yeah but come on, three hours? i mean i get being frustrated but you gotta pop the front off before you start swapping parts. a quick visual check of the blower wheel takes like thirty seconds. i've done similar stuff troubleshooting my car though, spent an afternoon diagnosing a misfire only to find a loose spark plug wire. sometimes you just gotta laugh at yourself.

totally with you on laughing at yourself. "popping the front off" reminds me when i spent a whole weekend chasing a rattle in my old truck, pulled half the dash apart, and it turned out to be a loose soda can under the seat. sometimes pride keeps you digging longer than you should.
