Tried swapping my alternator in a Walmart parking lot at 10pm
Was in Bakersfield last summer and my truck died right by the auto section. After two hours and dropping the new alternator on my face twice, a security guard handed me a flashlight and laughed for a solid minute. Anybody else had a parking lot repair go completely sideways?

Had a similar mess trying to swap a battery terminals in a Target lot near midnight. The whole thing started fine but then the bolt stripped and I was just standing there with a half dead battery and a socket wrench that wouldn't grip. Took me another hour to wiggle it loose with some pliers I borrowed from a nice guy in a minivan. Your alternator story hits close to home, man. Parking lot repairs are always a gamble, and you never know if you'll get a helpful stranger or just someone pointing and laughing. Hope your face recovered alright from that alternator drop, mine still twitches when I think about those kinds of nights.
