Tried fixing my lawnmower last weekend... made it so much worse

My mower wouldn't start. Figured it was a clogged carb. Took it apart in my garage on Saturday. Lost a tiny spring and mixed up two gaskets. Now it won't even turn over. Anyone else make a simple fix into a total disaster?

Wait, did the spring just vanish into thin air or did it shoot off like a tiny missile? I swear those little parts have a secret mission to hide in the grass forever so you can never finish the job.
