TIL a $22 harmonic balancer puller saved my engine swap after I nearly wrecked the crank with a rental
Two weekends ago I was pulling the balancer on my 302 in the garage and the loaner tool from the parts store kept slipping off the bolt, chewing up the threads. I got fed up and drove to a shop in Mesa that sold me a $22 puller with the right size jaws and a thrust bearing, and it walked the balancer off in about 90 seconds. The rental had already started rounding the crank snout, so I got lucky I quit when I did. Anyone else had a cheap tool beat the free loaner program, or am I just bad at borrowing?
