The washing machine repair that cost me double last Tuesday

I was trying to swap out the drain pump on my old Whirlpool and accidentally pulled the wire harness loose from the main board. Had to call a guy in from Toledo to re-solder it, $180 later I sure wish I'd just watched the full YouTube video first. Has anyone else gotten in over their head on an appliance fix that seemed simple?

$180 for a solder job on a board that probably costs $50 new is steep. Could've just grabbed a replacement main board off eBay and swapped it yourself in ten minutes.

People keep talking about the cost or the eBay fix. But what nobody's bringing up is the board revision issue. Plenty of those $50 eBay boards are old stock or pulled from units with different firmware. Pop one in and you can get weird boot loops, fan curve issues, or even brick it if the EC firmware doesn't match your laptop model exactly. A good solder job actually preserves your original board with the correct revisions. That $180 starts looking cheap when your eBay swap won't post.
