The washer drain hose that made me a plumber for a day, sort of
Last weekend I tried to fix a slow drain on my washing machine by just unhooking the hose and poking a coat hanger in there. Worked great for about 10 minutes, then water backed up all over the laundry room floor because I had reconnected it with a weird kink that acted like a one-way valve. Turns out the real issue was a clogged standpipe about 3 feet up the wall, not the hose at all. I spent two hours mopping and another hour fishing a sock and a bunch of lint out of the pipe with a wet vac. The kicker is my neighbor saw me doing it and laughed, then showed me that the hose needs a loop higher than the drain inlet, which I never knew. Cost me $12 for a new hose clamp set and a roll of paper towels, but now I triple check the route before I shove things back together. Has anyone else had a laundry room flood from something this dumb, or is it just me? I feel like the machine itself is fine, but my pride took a hit.
