PSA: That week I tried to fix my dryer and melted a wire

Spent a whole Saturday replacing the heating element in my dryer only to plug it in and see smoke pouring out. Turns out I pinched a wire against the metal housing and melted the insulation clean off. Anyone else short something out on their first try at an appliance repair?

Dont feel bad, I tried replacing a thermostat in my fridge and wired it backwards. It ran nonstop for two days before I figured out why everything was frozen solid.

Eh, I mean as long as nothing actually broke or caught fire, is it really a big deal? Stuff happens, just part of learning.
