Pick between a junkyard part and a remanufactured one for my old washer

My washing machine started making this grinding noise last month and I figured it was the transmission. I looked online and found two options a used part from a junkyard for 40 bucks or a remanufactured one for 150. I went cheap because I'm stubborn and thought I could make it work. Well the junkyard part had a cracked gear inside that I didn't see until I had the whole thing torn apart in my garage. Spent 4 hours putting it back together only for it to grind worse than before. So I caved and ordered the remanufactured one which fit perfect and has been running smooth for two weeks now. Lesson learned but has anyone else had luck with junkyard parts or am I just unlucky?

Hang on, you didn't spot the cracked gear until you had the whole machine apart? That's honestly brutal. Four hours of work just to find out you wasted your time, I'd be kicking myself for a week. I've been there with cheap parts on other stuff and it never ends well, seems like you always pay for it twice in the end. At least the remanufactured one worked out, that's gotta feel good after all that hassle.
