My dishwasher repair turned into a 3 day project after I cross-threaded the pump

Last month my dishwasher started leaking from under the door. I figured it was just the gasket, so I ordered a $15 part online. When I went to swap it out, I somehow forced the new pump housing on wrong and snapped a plastic clip clean off. Ended up having to order a whole new pump assembly for $60 and wait three days for shipping. The kicker is my wife found the original gasket was just twisted, so I didn't even need to open the pump. Has anyone else made a simple fix way worse by getting too confident with a screwdriver?
