Guy at the Napa counter told me to stop guessing at my brake squeal and just measure the rotor
I was in the Napa on 5th in Boise picking up pads for my 09 Civic because the fronts had been screaming for two weeks. I told the guy behind the counter I figured it was just glazed pads and I'd sand them down. He grabbed a mic and walked me out to the lot, measured my rotor at 24.1mm with a 22.4mm minimum, and said I was two oil changes from metal on metal. I had already bought the pads so I ran them anyway like an idiot. Three days later the pedal went soft and I had to do rotors, pads, and a caliper in my driveway with a flashlight. Cost me $180 instead of the $60 I thought I was saving. Anyone else get talked out of the cheap fix by a parts guy and ignore them anyway?
