Vent: My hotel's resort fee caught me totally off guard...

I thought I had a great deal on the booking site... Then at check-in, they slapped on an extra fee per night. How do you guys avoid getting hit with these hidden charges...?

Always call the front desk before booking to ask about all fees.

I used to book rooms based on the online price shown. @black.jordan's tip had me call a place and they listed resort and cleaning fees. Now I always check by phone first and it saves me from overpaying.

My buddy got hit with a surprise "destination fee" at check-in last month. He said the online price was way lower than what he actually paid. Now he calls too.
