Vent: My 'free' walking tour in Berlin ended up costing me 50 euros for lunch

The guide led us to this specific cafe he 'recommended' after the tour, and the prices were insane compared to the place I saw two blocks over. Has anyone else had a tour guide push a really expensive partner restaurant on them?

That guide had a deal with that cafe, no doubt. I see it all the time with tow truck drivers who only take cars to certain shops that give them a cut. It's a kickback system, plain and simple. They use your trust to steer you somewhere that profits them. Makes you question every friendly suggestion now, doesn't it?

Used to brush off stuff like that, but you're right. Makes you wonder who's actually looking out for you.

I mean maybe that's true sometimes but I've had guides give me good tips too.
