TIL my 'convenient' airport transfer in Rome cost me double
Honestly, I booked a private car from FCO to my hotel last month thinking it would be easy, and it ended up being 80 euros. Ngl, I found out later the Leonardo Express train is only 14 euros and gets you to the main station in 30 minutes. Has anyone else got a better tip for getting from that airport without getting ripped off?

That 80 euro sting is rough. I took a taxi from FCO once and the meter seemed to move faster than the car. The train is definitely the move if your hotel is near Termini. For other areas, the official fixed-rate taxis from the rank are about 50 euros to the city center, which still hurts but at least it's set.

Rome taxis are a whole different level of stress. My cousin got hit with a hundred euro ride from Ciampino because the driver took the scenic route through three towns. Now I just walk to the train even with heavy bags, it's not worth the argument.
