That night in Lisbon my hostel bed collapsed at 2am and the front desk guy just laughed
I was in Lisbon last March, staying at this place that cost 18 euros a night. The bunk bed frame was already wobbly when I checked in but I figured whatever, I'm only sleeping there. Around 2 in the morning I rolled over and the whole bottom bunk just gave out. Slats snapped, mattress hit the floor, I landed in a pile of my own laundry. The guy at the front desk came up, saw me sitting on the floor in my underwear, and just started laughing. He didn't apologize or offer a room change, he just said "you want tape?" and handed me duct tape. I fixed the slats with that tape and my backpack straps, slept on the floor the rest of the night. Next day I asked around and a guy in my dorm said the same thing happened in the top bunk two nights before. They still charged full price. Has anyone else dealt with hostels that just don't care about broken beds? I'm curious if that's common in Portugal or if I just got the one bad place.

At least you got a free floor inspection out of it, I've paid extra for way worse nights.
