That hostel in Budapest letting you cook your own meals saved me $60 in 3 days.
I was staying at a place called Carpe Noctem last summer and their free kitchen setup made me realize I could prep pasta and eggs instead of eating out every meal, so do most budget hostels actually have decent cooking spaces or am I just getting lucky?

I mean... is saving $60 really that life changing though? Feels like people hype up hostel kitchens like they're some big secret when it's just basic stuff.

Isn't it funny how something as simple as a kitchen can change your whole trip? I've noticed it's not just hostels either. Like my gym has a microwave and a toaster in the lounge area and it totally changed how I prep food before work. Same with that coffee shop downtown that lets you plug in your laptop for free. It's like once you find one place with a good setup, you start seeing it everywhere. But yeah, not all hostels are equal. Some have a hot plate and a sink that's basically useless.
