That hostel in Barcelona changed how I pack for trips
Back in 2018, I stayed at a cheap hostel near Las Ramblas for 12 euros a night. My big rolling suitcase was a nightmare on those narrow stairs, and half the stuff I brought never even left the bag. After that trip, I switched to a 35 liter backpack and never looked back. Anyone else switch up their luggage style after a bad experience?

That big rolling suitcase was a nightmare on those narrow stairs" - oh man, that brought back a memory. My buddy Dave had almost the exact same thing happen in Prague a few years back. He showed up with this giant hard-shell suitcase to a hostel that was literally five floors up with no elevator. He ended up having to carry it up himself because the guy at the desk just pointed at the stairs and shrugged. On the second trip he got so frustrated he just started kicking it up step by step and it cracked the shell. By the end of the trip half the wheels were busted and he had to buy a duffel bag from a street vendor to get his stuff home. He's been a backpack-only guy ever since and swears he'll never go back to a roller.

It's funny how one bad travel experience makes people swear off something forever @ross.sean, just like how I refuse to buy jeans without trying them on first.
