Noticed something odd about hostel pricing in Lisbon last month

I paid 18 euros a night for a dorm bed on a Tuesday, but the same bed was 34 euros on Friday, and when I asked the front desk about it they just shrugged and said demand, so I'm wondering if anyone else has found that booking midweek for weekend stays is actually the only real hack left in cities like this.

Same thing happened to me in Porto last spring. Booked a Tuesday night for 8 euros, then checked the same hostel for Saturday and it was nearly triple. Midweek is seriously underrated, people just don't think about it. Plus you get way more space since most travelers pile in for the weekends anyway.
