My big switch from airport shuttles to local trains
I always booked airport shuttles because I worried local transport would be too confusing. Last year in Bangkok, I tried the train from the airport to save money. It was only about a dollar compared to the shuttle's fifteen, and the signs were in English too. Now I research train or bus routes before every trip to cut costs. This hack has let me afford extra meals or a museum ticket on tight budgets. I even got to see more of the city by riding with locals. Giving this a chance changed how I travel for the better.

I've had similar savings using trains instead of shuttles.

My buddy told me he did the same thing in Tokyo, taking the Narita Express into the city. He said it was half the price of a cab and way faster than a shuttle bus during rush hour. It got him right into Shinjuku station, which is this huge hub for connecting to other train lines. Hearing that made me look up metro maps way more carefully when I plan a trip now. You really do see the everyday flow of a place when you're not sealed up in a private car.

Ever try the train from Heathrow into London? Did that last year and saved a ton versus a cab, plus it dropped me right at Paddington. Felt way more plugged into the city than staring out a taxi window.
