Hot take: street food in Bangkok is actually more expensive than sit-down restaurants now
I was just there last month and noticed the stalls near Khao San Road are charging like 80 baht for pad thai now. Walked 5 minutes into a little family place with actual chairs and AC and got the same thing for 45 baht. Has anyone else seen this shift happening in other tourist cities too?

Real ones know the real move is dodging the tourist strip stalls and finding those little family spots with the handwritten menus, that 45 baht pad thai hits different when you're not paying for the "experience" of eating on a plastic stool in 90 degree heat.

Totally feel you @dakota160. The way I see it, that same rule applies to so much more than just food. Paying extra for the "vibe" means you're really just paying for someone to tell you what you should like, rather than discovering it yourself. Those handwritten menus and plastic stools are where the real soul of the city lives, not in some Instagram-ready bowl that costs four times as much.
