Hostel vs. Couchsurfing in Prague cost me $50 extra

I picked a $12 hostel bed over a free Couchsurfing spot because I was scared of awkwardness. Ended up spending $50 on lockers, laundry, and overpriced snacks at the hostel bar. Anyone else regret playing it safe and blowing your budget?

Ngl you just described my entire trip to Barcelona last summer. I paid $15 a night for a hostel just to avoid the awkwardness of sleeping on some stranger's couch and ended up dropping $30 on their stupid mandatory linen rental and $25 on a locker that barely fit my backpack. Should have just risked the weird Couchsurfing vibe and saved the cash. The bar snacks got me too, overpriced chips that cost more than a proper meal down the street.

Honestly man, was it really that bad though? You saved $15 a night on the base rate but then got hit with fees, yeah that sucks but $30 for linens and $25 for a locker, that's what, $55 extra? Still a lot less than a hotel would've cost you. And the snack thing, I mean you couldve just walked two blocks to a corner store and grabbed a bag of chips for a euro or two. I get being annoyed but it sounds like you let a few small things ruin the whole trip. Barcelona's a great city, the hostel stuff is just part of the game at that price point.
