Hostel vs capsule hotel in Tokyo, picked the capsule and kind of regret it

Spent 5 nights in a Shinjuku capsule place for $38 a night. It was quieter than the hostel I was eyeing at $30, but man, no lockers big enough for my bag and the shared bathroom line at 7am was brutal. Hostel had a common kitchen, capsule had none, so I ate out more and blew my food budget. Would the extra $8 a night have saved me grief? Maybe. Has anyone else done both and found one clearly better for solo trips?

$38 a night for a capsule and no locker big enough for your bag"? That's wild. I'd be sleeping with my backpack as a pillow before I paid that much to hear other people snore through thin walls.
