Got stuck in a downpour in Edinburgh with no rain gear, spent 20 pounds on a tourist poncho. Now I'm torn: always pack a cheap umbrella and raincoat, or just buy local when you need it?

Twenty pounds for a poncho is absolutely wild. That's the kind of price that makes you pack a raincoat forever. Just throw a cheap one in your bag and save the cash for a real souvenir.
