I used to pack for every possible weather change, which meant a huge checked bag and extra fees. She told me to pick a color theme and use layers, so I cut my stuff in half and only took a carry-on for a week. What's the one item you always pack but never use?

My portable steamer, because hotel irons always work fine.

Oh wait, hotel irons actually DON'T always work fine though! I've had so many that leave weird rust spots or just don't heat up evenly. Maybe your experience has been better than mine, but I've definitely burned a shirt or two trusting those things.
