Was shocked to learn rice costs more per pound than chicken now at my local Kroger
I was looking at my receipt after a normal shopping trip last Tuesday and noticed the bag of jasmine rice was $2.49 a pound. The chicken thighs on sale were $1.99 a pound. How is that even possible when rice is supposed to be the cheap filler food we all rely on to stretch meals? I looked it up online and found out rice prices jumped like 30% in the last year due to weather and export bans in Asia. Has anyone else had to totally rethink their meal planning because the old budget staples aren't cheap anymore?

Yeah, I just switched to buying whatever is on sale and plan meals around that.
